Puppets with Purpose “Sesame Street meets South Park”
This delightful parody, packed with mischief, bad behaviour and political incorrectness, that dares to ask the question, “What do you do with a B.A. in English” brings the naughtiest puppets in town to the 4th Wall Theatre stage
Avenue Q ingeniously combines a cast of humans and puppets who tackle the subjects of dating, racism, internet porn, being gay and finding your purpose in life and has long been the darling of Broadway, selling out to delighted audiences consistently since its inception. Winner of the Tony Triple Crown for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book, Avenue Q has gone on to be one of the longest running shows on Broadway, concluding its celebrated 15+ year run in New York in May 2019.
Created by Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez, (Co-creator of Book of Mormon and writer of the songs for Disney’s Frozen) with book by Jeff Whitty, Avenue Q is an irresistibly charming tale of the loveable characters on a downtown New York street trying to make sense of life’s burning issues.
Meet Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account, who is very anxious to discover his purpose in life. But first, he must find an apartment and a job and the only neighbourhood in his price range is Avenue Q, which is about as far away from Park Avenue as you can get. There he meets a very cute kindergarten teacher named Kate Monster, Brian the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fiancée Christmas Eve. Nicky the good-hearted slacker and his closet gay Republican roommate Rod, an Internet ‘sexpert’ called Trekkie Monster, Lucy the Sl*t (the name says it all) and would you believe the building’s superintendent is Gary Coleman (yes that Gary Coleman)
The 4th Wall Production is led by a very experienced team under the Direction of Samantha Turner (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe) Musical Director Phillip Malcolm (Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Sister Act, Mama Mia) and performed by an unholy comedic alliance of 11 hugely talented Live Actors and Puppets manipulated by unconcealed puppeteers who all join forces in song and dance to tell Princeton’s timeless story.
Welcome to the deliciously demented world of Avenue Q. As they sing, dance, and impart lessons on such improbable subjects as porn and homosexuality, you realize you will never look at puppets the same way again. Take a trip down to Avenue Q to watch this one-of-a-kind musical with a warm (and very fuzzy) heart - you may just discover your purpose, at least for now that is, so don’t let your life suck – book your tickets today!
WARNING! Contains full puppet nudity and other vulgarities that will induce laughter
Rating M (suitable for a mature audience) - Parents should use their discretion based on the maturity level of their teenagers. But we promise you this - if you DO bring your teenagers to Avenue Q, they'll think you're really cool
